?Help in Identifying your Child’s Reaction to Anger and What to Do About It

Being a parent is not easy and it gets even harder, whenyour child gets angry. A toddler throwing a temper tantrum,a young child screaming and pounding or an adolescentslamming the door slamming, can leave us all puzzled, frustrated and at our wits end. Sometimes it might even makeus angry and it is hard to deal with your childâ??sanger if you are getting angry and frustrated too.

Therefore one of the first things youmight want to do when trying to deal with child anger andtantrums is identifying the source. Find out what triggeredthe anger and also, find out what the childâ??sreaction to anger is. Not all children have the samereaction. Some scream, some pound, others might hit andbite, bang their heads on the wall or not show any exteriorsigns at all while they store the anger inside. Even thoughmany of us were taught that anger is a bad thing and that weshould be ashamed for being angry, this is not exactly true.Of course anger is not a nice thing, but learning toproperly deal with and express our anger can make all thedifference.

Children should always beallowed to express their feelings and the feelings should betreated with respect. A child has a different view of life. What angers him now might not even bother him tomorrow, butfor now we need to respect the feelings and acknowledgethem. The angry outburst of a child might be a defensemechanism or might be related to failure or self esteem.Sometimes it might even be a way to express anxiety. Manyyoung children actually get angry when they are sad. It is anormal reaction for them because anger and sadness are veryclosely related.

If you are worriedabout your child, find out when and why the child getsangry. Also there is a fine line between anger andaggression. Anger is a temporary situation, whereasaggression is a way of hurting a person or destroyingproperty. Neither one of the two is really bad, but whenother people can get hurt it is absolutely time for you todeal with your childâ??s anger/aggression. Whendealing with an angry child, think about trying to protectand help the child; donâ??t think about punishing thechild.

Ways to prevent anger or help achild with the anger are more or less effective fordifferent children. Here are some ways that you can dealwith anger in children.

First of all,â??catch your child being goodâ??. Telling achild when he or she has done something that pleases youhelps a child learn what you think is good behavior. It alsomakes the child feel good about him/her by accomplishingthings that are important to you. When a child learns thedifference between good and not so good behavior the childwill try to behave more often in a way that you appreciate. This does not mean to just tell the child that he is good.It needs to be related to a specific situation. Praise yourchild after cleaning up by himself, after taking the shoesoff when entering the house or after helping you with achore without being asked.

Anotherimportant part with dealing with aggressive/angry childrenis to ignore behavior and situations that can be tolerated. If you tell your child every time he does something wrongyou not only overwhelm the child, you might also lower theself-esteem. The child will think that he or she can neverdo anything to please you.

Additionally you can help your childby giving him or her physical outlets or by manipulating thesurroundings. Sometimes anger comes from having to muchenergy to burn; the child is on the edge. If the child getsan opportunity to burn the energy there will be less energyput into anger. Manipulating the surroundings to prevent thechild from being angry is also helpful (removing a toy, starting a different activity).

Lastly, one of the most important things, show your child that youlove him or her, be close, lovingly connect to your childthrough touch and talk. And if you get into a situation, trysome humor to break the ice; it will ease the tension inyour child.

However, these people aren't really real, and whatthey are doing might not be the best way to go. The best wayfor you to be a mom is to simply be a mom. Many times, youwill find that being a mom isn't near as hard as you mightthink that it would be.

The firstthing that you have to remember as you are dealing with thesupermom syndrome is that you are going to run into a lot ofbarriers. You want to be sure that you are able to take careof your children, first and foremost, and trying to do toomuch at once is often a good way for it to be ruined. Therefore, you want to focus on the family first andforemost.

What a lot of moms don'trealize is that the most important part of being a good momis not making sure that they get home baked cookies, get totheir soccer games on time, and also get everything in theworld that they could possibly want. It often seems thatwhen someone tries to be a super parent, they lose site ofwhat it really means to be a parent. Kids aren't going tolose faith in a parent if that parent burns the dinner ormisses a soccer game. Kids are going to lose fait in aparent if a parent isn't telling them the truth, isn'tteaching them the ways of the world, or isn't listening towhat they say.

Therefore, as a mom,the most important thing that you can do is always going tobe to make sure that you are there for your kids. Just beingthere is something that a lot of moms excel at, and it issomething that you want to try to do as well as you can. Youwant to be sure that you are able to get as much out of yourchildren as you can, but also that they can get as much outof you as possible. This doesnâ??t mean that you haveto do everything and be the world's best mom. It means thatyou have to be the best mom you can be â?" whichmeans that you are there to guide your children throughtheir lives.

Lots of moms lose site ofthe fact that their number one job should always be to guidetheir children through their lives. Often, it seems thatmoms are trying so hard to show other moms that they can doeverything that they forget what they are supposed to bedoing. Stop trying to do everything that you can do. Often, the one thing that your child is going to need from you issimply your time and your ear so that they can know you arelistening. Forget trying to be perfect in all of those otherways. See if you can simply be there for your children andmake sure that they know it. This is the best way that youcan be a mom.

For Busy Parents – How to Get Your Teens to Help Out Willingly

Some teens are more motivated than others. This may be forany number of reasons. Whatever the case may be, you may besearching for ways to get your teen to willingly help outaround the house.

Teens generallyrespond better to positive reinforcement rather thanâ??naggingâ?? or excessive yelling. They alsomay respond better if you warn them of the possibility ofprivilege restriction if they do not follow through on housechores.

The exact method you use tomotivate a teen will vary, depending upon thatchildâ??s personality. However, one of the mosteffective ways to get a teen to help out around the house isto offer incentives.

For instance, perhaps you will provide the teen with a small weeklyallowance. This method has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that the teen will develop a healthy workethic and will learn the value of the dollar.

The one small disadvantage is that theteen could grow up thinking they must alwaysâ??getâ?? something in order to be willing toâ??giveâ?? something. However, a large number ofteens learn to be responsible on their own at somepoint—with or without any incentive.

Another type of incentive for yourteen is to offer them with time just for them if they helpout around the house. This can be accomplished through sometype of negotiation. For instance, you may allow them anafternoon or evening with their friends one day a week aslong as they do their assignedchores.

The advantage of offering ateen the chance to spend time with their friends is thatthey will learn it is okay to have fun. Furthermore, theteen child will also know that you trust him or her enoughto be alone with their friends for a couple of hours at atime, or even for a whole evening.

Ofcourse, the disadvantage is that the teen may be extremelystrong-willed and will not to the chores. To add insult toinjury, he or she may also leave the house to hang out withfriends without your permission.

Thisproblem can often be correcting by way of grounding.Grounding is the restriction of the teen to the home for acertain amount of time. However, this may not work with allteens, either.

If a teen is excessivelyunruly no matter what type of disciplinary action you applyto him or her, there may be a deeper reason behind it. Thisreason could possibly be explored through avenues such aschild or family counseling.

Also, ifyou notice a drastic change in your childâ??sbehavior, watch out for signs of alcohol or drug use.Furthermore, make an effort to know whom your teen hangs outwith at all times. No matter how much they resist, insistthey give you contact information and try to make sure sometype of supervision is provided in the event of a sleepover.

After you have read this article andhave applied some of these tips and still feel at a loss, perhaps you can contact other parents. You can find out howthey deal with their teens, and how they have motivatedtheir children to help out around thehome.

Furthermore, you as parents canteach your teen by example. If you pick up after yourself heor she will be more likely to do so also. If you do yourshare of the housework your teen will also be more willingto do so.

Most importantly, the tasksyou ask your teen child to do must be reasonable for theage. Taking out the garbage, doing dishes, vacuuming, orcleaning the bathroom are some of the tasks most commonlyassigned to teens. Older teens may also be able to handleyard work such as raking or mowing the lawn.
